The unexpected perils of working from home

About 18 months ago, I decided I needed an assistant, one who could stay at home with me and also be a companion.

I decided to invest in a catassistant. That’s where the problems all began. Working from home would no longer be the same!

While notably excellent for encouraging work/life balance and copious amount of napping, Farrah the catassistant is really rather useless when it comes to doing actual work.

Here is Farrah the Catassistant working on some video editing. As you can imagine. It took longer than expected.

Every quarter Farrah enjoys assisting me with preparing the paperwork for the bookkeeper. She spends most of her time trying to figure out how the contraption works along with sitting on the printouts.

One thing Farrah is very good at is cuddling. Here she is in one of her favorite positions. She loves to be held like a baby with one hand while I type with the other. My productivity takes a dive but my heart tends to soar.

  • Hahaha, I have a black boy cat who likes to walk in front of my face while I am Skypeing with a client!

And if I’m working from the lazyboy, the positions I pretzel myself into with my laptop so that he can get his share of my lap has given me neck ache! 😀

  • YES!!

My cat, Pantsie, is the worst office mate sometimes. She thinks she’s a verrry important document, so she sleeps in my doc sorter. Problem is that she’s got a bit of a weight problem, so she keeps splitting the sides of the doc sorter and scattering my actual papers all over the floor.

Good thing her purrs and snuggles make me happy!

PS – we don’t really talk about her weight problem, so don’t tell her I said anything.

  • Yup I’ve got a cat problem. Pepsi the tortie cat just loves to miaow and sing as soon as I hit record for my lessons! Hope my clients don’t mind 🙂

  • Haha! So cute. I have a bunny named Hazelnut who tends to keep to herself, unless there are important papers around. Then she’s hungry…for destruction. 🙂

  • Haha, love this and I have a definite cat problem/ cat manager! It’s a good job the little bugger’s so cute or I’d have fired him long ago!

  • HA! Love it. Love, love, love.

Just wait until you try typing with a kiddo on your lap. It’s like having a cat, but with opposable thumbs and less napping. 😉

This is my life. I started working at home/being a housewife. My kitties LOVED this new plan and have convinced themselves that my only job is to be at their beck and call. Friends and family say I’m the only person they know with actual furball children because they act so much like kids. My black one, Bowser, loves to sit on his hind legs and reach his front paws up to me until I pick him up and then carry him around on my hip. Ridiculous, but I love them 🙂

    • hahaha OMG amy! This is hilarious. Your little guys are adorable and they sound like fantastic assistants!

  • Just fabulous. I have a small fluffy dog who thinks he is a cat. Nothing he likes better than helping with computer work.
